The Round Table on Sustainable Production in the Textile and Garment Sector in Asia in February 2017 in Dhaka, Bangladesh has been successfully organized by the Social and Labor Standards in the Garment and Textiles Sector in Asia (SLSG) and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
The Round Table regularly brings together stakeholders from the Asian private and public sectors and from the buyers’ side. It focused on Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) with the vision of “A widespread implementation of sustainable chemistry and best practices in the textile and footwear industries to protect consumers, workers and the environment”, followed by the topic of “Fire and Building Safety” in the context of the Bangladeshi initiative National Tripartite Plan of Action on Fire Safety and Structural Integrity in the Garment Sector of Bangladesh (NTPA).
Developing business solutions for sustainability was another goal of the roundtable. Representatives from government institutions, producers, producing associations and buyers shared their respective overviews on how to implement ZDHC or measures for a safe work environment.
